St Philip and St James’s church, Grafton Road, Cheltenham, GL50 2DD

“To have and to hold from this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part…”

Your wedding day will be one of the most memorable of your life and we would love to be part of your celebrations. In January 2020 we moved out of our building until Spring 2021 for an exciting new redesign of our Church space.  You can read more about it here.  This means that we are unable to take bookings for weddings to be held in Pip and Jim’s before Spring 2021.

In the meantime, however, we can arrange for weddings to take place in other churches that are part of our South Cheltenham Team.  Many couples make a booking for a wedding at St Peter’s, Leckhampton.  If you would like to consider this, please complete the attached form and return it to us.  Please note that at this stage, your booking is not confirmed and will only be confirmed once you have met with Revd Nick Davies.

If you are getting married in another Church of England Church and need us to read your Banns, please follow this link for more information.

To make an enquiry…

To enquire about having your wedding please email the office with your names, addresses (including postcode), contact phone numbers and preferred date and time.  One of our administrators will be in touch to confirm other details and arrange for you to meet with the vicar to confirm your booking.

Preparing for the big day…

To help you prepare for your big day, the vicar will meet with you several times to discuss the ceremony, music and order of service.  We also offer regular marriage preparation classes which are organised together with other south Cheltenham churches.  This is an opportunity for couples to chat together and to think through the ups and downs of married life.

Weddings often take place on Saturdays but can take place on other days of the week.  The ceremony lasts around an hour.  We are happy for you to have a dedicated photographer.  We can also work with a video operator, however, special fees apply for this.  Once you have made a booking, our Director of Music, Russell Burton will be happy to discuss music and booking our choir.  Our Flower Guild can also advise you on floral decorations in Church.

How much will it cost?

The fees for 2020 are as follows: (There will increase slightly in 2021)
Service with organist and full choir £960
Service with organist and no choir £810
Service without choir and organist £660

An extra fee of £100 is charged for video recording as this becomes a recorded performance

Hosting your reception

With the big redesign of our Church we are now in a position to host wedding receptions using outside caterers.  Chairs and tables in our Nave can be rearranged to provide a banqueting layout set against the beautiful backdrop of our Victorian space.  Our newly installed audio-visual, PA and electrical system can also support bands and other live music.  There is also our outside Plaza space which can be used for wedding photographs.  If you would like to speak to us about this, do get in touch with our office.  We are in the process of agreeing charges for 2021 but they are likely to be as fraction of the cost of a stately home reception and will allow you and your guests more time together in one space.

Looking for a wedding photographer?

As part of your planning for your big day you may well be looking for a photographer.  We can recommend Gill Thomas who kindly took many of the photos on our website.  We like her portraits and informal style.  She also knows this church well.  To see her portfolio and to get in touch with her, please visit her website
