Funerals

Some words from Psalm 23…

 The Lord is my shepherd;
therefore can I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures
and leads me beside still waters.

He shall refresh my soul
and guide me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
for you are with me;

We are very happy to host funeral services in Church and can easily accommodate up to 200 guests.  A traditional Church of England service can be a great comfort at timers of grief and our Team Rector is available to meet with families to help prepare a personal service that celebrates the lives of those whom we have loved. Lost and see no more.

Usually the first arrangements are made between the family and the funeral director, who will in turn contact the Team Rector. Should you wish to contact Revd Nick Davies, the Team Rector, please feel free to call him anytime on 01242 321268.

There are various possibilities for the service and our team Rector will be happy to discuss these with you.  Many people have a Church of England funeral ceremony at Cheltenham Crematorium, others have a funeral service in church followed by a shorter committal service at the Crematorium or elsewhere.  Sometimes families choose to have a brief committal service for close family, followed by Thanksgiving Service in church.  A service in church often allows more time for tributes, prayers and hymns and for more people to attend, as we can easily seat several hundred people.   We will do all we can to fit in with the family’s arrangements.

We hold a memorial service in November each year where everyone is welcome to come and remember those we have loved and lost, to light a candle and say a prayer. If you would like to receive an invitation to this service please contact the office.

There is a memorial book in the chapel where the names of those whose funeral services have been taken by clergy at St Philip and St James may be recorded.  Please contact the parish office if you would like a name recorded.
