These last few weeks we’ve learnt again about the importance of touch. The touch we must avoid so as to not pass on this dreadful virus. We’ve a...Download
Our appointed architects, FERGUSON MANN (FMA), have undertaken major conservation and reordering work in listed churches for many years. Based in Bristol their work can be seen in several buildings in that city, including SS Philip and Jacob and St James’ Priory. In Cheltenham they have recently completed the conversion of the headquarters building of the Barnwood Trust, one of our supporters.
Our scheme will include two flat- roofed pods which will serve as meeting and function rooms. They will be glazed and situated on the first floor in the side aisles and be equipped to meet modern communications needs. Beneath them on the ground floor will be the church office, a servery and a ‘drop-in’ seating area which will combine to extend a welcome to our wider community.
The nave and aisles will be completely cleared of pews, enabling a new underfloor heating system to be installed under a new limestone floor. The memorial Chapel will be glazed to create third discrete meeting room which will be fully accessible thanks to an extended ramp on the south side of the church and the levelling of the whole of the ground floor.
The chancel furnishings, pulpit, screen and lectern will remain largely unaltered, although an area for private prayer will be created within the chancel.
More accessible toilets will be installed within the tower space, and a new glazed West end entrance lobby will act as a focal point for a newly landscaped entrance piazza with car and cycle parking.
All the work will combine to provide a welcoming, accessible, flexible space which will further strengthen the church’s links to the community and offer a valuable asset to the neighbourhood.
Our reordering proposals are set out in detail, in a substantial portfolio of documents, called a ‘Petition of Faculty’, which comprises a narrative report and a set of plans and drawings. The narrative report includes a description and explanation of our Reordering Proposals.

In addition, we have an animated 3D ‘walk though, giving a impression of how the reordered church will appear. Click here to see this.
