Walking with God – A South Cheltenham Team Prayer walking initiative

Report from our first walk from Emmanuel on 14 April

This morning a group of us from 3 congregations in South Cheltenham gathered in Emmanuel Church to go on the prayer walk around the parish.  We were blessed even before we started with a beautiful sunny morning.

After a short prayer in church we went into the car park to pray for those whose use this space, especially for parents and children going to Naunton Park School.  Next stop was outside the school were we prayed again. Then it was time for our stop at Mel’s café and delicious mushroom or bacon sandwiches, plus another time for prayer for those that worked, and those who used the café. We also prayed for the businesses and those who work in them on the industrial estate.

As we enjoyed the sunshine we walked, prayed and talked our way to the Leonard Cheshire home and Charlton Lane Hospital where we prayed for the residents and those who care for them.

Next stop was in Pilley Bridge Nature Reserve where we met Sharon who gave us all sorts of wonderful information on the creation of it, the volunteers who worked to bring it to being what it is today, and she shared about their hopes and plans for the future. Sharon told us about the various areas and wild life that live on the reserve.   It really is a wonderful oasis in the middle of the parish where God’s creation can been seen and is used by many. On the way back we prayed outside the Naunton Lane Church before reaching the Bath Road with the wonderful mixture of shops and offices. This was our last pray stop before returning to Emmanuel Church. In the church we gathered for a final time of prayer to offer to God some of the things we had seen and heard before saying goodbye to each other at 11.30am.

The prayer walk was relaxed, not too fast a pace, and people could say their own prayers, or add an amen to the prayers of others! Overall, it was a great morning of walking with God, praying for our community and making new friends from our other team churches.
