Thank you to all who took part in volunteering at the Suffolks Street Fair on Bank Holiday Monday. It was truly a team effort and by mid-afternoon, a team battle against the elements! Despite the weather, there were well over 100 balloons given out, with the words ‘South Cheltenham Churches We welcome Refugees’ written in black on a bright yellow background. We watched them bob in the air, as the children went around the Fair. People did stop to talk and ask questions and were very supportive: without a single request for money/ donations, we raised £114.66! Only two people in the entire day were negative. As well as the general public, the Mayor of Cheltenham and the Conservative candidate for Cheltenham also stopped to speak. A women trader, at a stall opposite to ours, came over with a donation and said that she was so pleased to see the church joining in community events and especially the project we are undertaking.
