This week we have appointed a new Director of Music. His name is Russell Burton and he will be starting at the end of September. Russell has been a tenor lay clerk at the cathedral and a chorister singing teacher. He has been director of music at two independent schools, has directed the county Junior choir, was head of vocal studies at the King’s school and has been a music examiner for 13 years. Russell studied for four years at the Birmingham Conservatoire where he graduated with distinction. The interview panel were unanimous in their choice and had a lively conversation with him about regular schools work in St James school, recruiting to choir and music group, developing our musical resources and even rehearsing the congregation before the service! We look forward to welcoming him in the autumn.
