On Sunday 3rd August 2014 at 3pm, there will be a special service in Gloucester Cathedral to mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War 1 on Monday 4th August 1914.
As part of the service, representatives of each parish in the ceremonial county of Gloucestershire will come forward to the altar, and present the names of those individuals from the parish who died in the 1914-1918 conflict. These names are listed on the war memorial outside the Memorial Chapel at St Philip and St James’. Gerry and Jean Gahan have kindly offered to represent Pip and Jim’s at this special service.
On Monday 4th August, the names will be read out continuously in the Lady Chapel. We are all welcome to attend this act of commemoration, which will begin at 9.00 am and continue for as long as it takes: people can come and go as they wish.
