St Philip and St James’ Church, Grafton Road, Cheltenham, GL50 2DL

Consultation has been at the heart of our project: at an early stage of planning members of our congregation and of the local community took part in surveys and we are most grateful to all participants. Both surveys provided us with a lot of useful information which may be seen by clicking here:

Further consultation took place in 2016, when our designs were presented in church and we hosted visits from heritage organisations and the Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC). The DAC has been most supportive and we acknowledge their continuing help.

Since our Faculty was granted , we have reached more widely in Cheltenham to potential users of our reordered space , through Open events in the church and visits to community organisations. Those contacts are helping us both to finalise the fittings needed in the new spaces in Pip and Jims and to develop our strategy for the use of them. Our objectives, as we plan usage will include:

  • To provide contacts and stimuli for the vulnerable and those who may not feel included by society
  • To provide opportunities for all people to explore spiritual issues
  • To play a leading role in developing understanding of and support for those with mental health challenges
  • To be recognised as a cultural hub for south Cheltenham
  • To  promote activities for young families
